Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used by orthopedic surgeons to see, diagnose and treat problems in joints.

During arthroscopic surgery orthopedic surgeon makes a small incision in the patient's skin and then inserts an instrument the size of a pencil, which contains a small lens and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint. The light is transmitted through to the tip of optical arthroscope that is inserted into the joint fiber.

After connecting the arthroscope with a miniature television camera, the surgeon can see inside the joint through a very small incision, rather than a more size if necessary surgery.
